Since 1998

Fresh Coffee, Guaranteed!

Mercara Gold Estate is a beautiful coffee estate in Coorg. Whilst coffee was grown here since the 1960’s we acquired it in 1998 & began a process of transformation by organising it into a well laid out farm & introduced farm processes & practices that are “best in class” for an optimum yield & fine quality produce of Arabica, Robusta & Liberica coffees.

We introduced our own “washing” (wet processing) facility in 2008 to enable us to produce our own range of boutique style coffee & we practice every time-tested process to ensure great well-balanced coffee. This was a first for a boutique sized coffee estate.

Honest Reflection While I must acknowledge that our guide, Ravi, was truly exceptional, and his knowledge and personality almost make me want to give the team 5 stars, I feel it wouldn't do justice to fellow visitors if I didn't share an honest perspective. In all honesty, the overall experience was somewhat overrated. However, Ravi's vast knowledge and engaging personality more than compensated for it. He was a pleasure to talk to and greatly enriched our visit. Regarding the plantation itself, I must admit it was rather mediocre and seemed to be on a decline, likely due to external factors beyond their control. Considering this, I would recommend visiting only if you happen to have some spare time on your hands.

Highly recommended My tour was done by Mr Ravi. He gave a tour of the plantation, its history and in detail told about various coffee types, spices etc grown here. It was a very informative experience which lasted about 15 min. It was followed by complementary coffee which was ok in taste. They also make chocolates and the process was shown too. At the end we went to their shop and bought spice Laung/ ckoves which were very fresh n aromatic. Coffee soap was average. Instant coffee was just average.

Informative, fun little tour. The coffee estate is easy to reach, google maps directions are accurate. The staff there is very warm and welcoming and the process of getting your tour booked is easy. They have a good variety of food in the restaurant, right next to the coffee plantation. Ravi was our guide for the evening and he made our tour of the plantation very enjoyable and fun. He’s extremely informative about everything at the plantation and was very patient with our constant doubts and queries. It was also lovely to be accompanied by their unofficial tour dog, rocky who led us through the plantation in his own style. Overall, a very informative and fun experience that I’d recommend to anyone who’s interested in coffee and all the works around it.

Memorable Experience with traditional Kodagu Thali The tour started with a warm welcome from our knowledgeable guide, Mr.Ravi. He began by giving us an overview of the history of coffee and its significance in the region. Then proceeded to explore the plantation, where we were able to see the coffee plants up close. The guide explained the different varieties of coffee grown on the plantation and how each one has its own unique flavor profile. After we were taken to the processing area. Overall, Mr. Ravi's exceptional guidance made this coffee plantation tour an unforgettable experience.

Wonderful, educative, enjoyable. We spent three days in Madikeri and did the usual tourist circuit - We visited Talakaveri, the Madikeri fort, went to the War memorial, visited Abbey falls, Dabure elephant camp and Bylakuppe. But the highlight of our trip was without doubt the tour of the Mercare Coorg coffee estate. Mr Ravi, our tour guide gave us an unforgettable experience, telling us about the different varieties of coffee, the history of coffee in Coorg, the challenges the Coorg coffee industry is facing from global warning and the different varieties of coffee, the methods of roasting it and the best way of appreciating it. Mr Ravi is not only extremely well informed and a great story teller, but also a true coffee afficianado. The tour through the spectacular Mercara coffee estate with its splendid views, with our wonderful guide, where we also talked to the brilliant local farmers who work there maintaining the estates will be something we will remember for a long time to come!
